Activity 1
I learnt that Maui was't selfish like his other brothers. I also learnt that Maui does not give up when some one says to him you can't do it. Maui was the only person out of his brothers that said the Karakia. Activity 2
Hi
I am very nervous moving to a new country and leaving my home. But here in this country it has lot's of nature and lot's of wildlife it is so amazing. All the birds chirping happily and there are lot's of weird animals.
Bonus Activity
I would love to have a go one day to see what it is like. I am sure it would be fun to try new things.
Hi Sandra,
ReplyDeleteMy name's Ruby and I'm one of the people who will be blogging with you over the summer during the Summer Learning Journey program. It's great to see that you've made a start on these activities! Well done.
You have some good facts about Maui there. A good word to use when talking about Maui is how he persevered. That means that he didn't give up even when it was difficult. Have you read any other Maui stories? There's a really good one about Maui and the sun. Here is the link if you would like to read it:
http://eng.mataurangamaori.tki.org.nz/Support-materials/Te-Reo-Maori/Maori-Myths-Legends-and-Contemporary-Stories/How-Maui-slowed-the-sun
I think it would be fun to be in a Waka Ama but I don't think I could be in a race. It would be too difficult for me! There would be a lot of practice involved in preparing for a Waka Ama race. What sorts of things do you think you would need to do to practice?
I look forward to reading more of your blog over the summer.
Cheers,
Ruby.
Hey Sandra,
ReplyDeleteThis is Jade C from the Summer Learning Journey team. I will also be reading your blog posts along with Jade F, Hazel, Ruby, Rachel, and many other bloggers. I am excited to read the first set of activities you've completed.
I like all the information you've written for the first activity. Maui's brothers were mean and nasty to Maui. They teased Maui and did not support Maui with anything at all. Do you have a sibling? I have one sister and what I've learnt from this story is that you have to be nice and kind to your family and others. I also like how you recognised that Maui was the only one to say the Karakia.
I like how your letter is very personal and you have some good ideas in there such as seeing lots of nature and wildlife. What nature do you see? I would've been great if you expanded a bit on that, adding more details to what you see, what you smell, what you feel, what you hear! All these details will help you to create brilliant and interesting stories.
I also want to participate and have a go at Waka Ama race. I think it would be similar to paddling on the canoe, don't you think so? I totally agree with you, it's going to be fun trying new things and taking risks.
I enjoyed reading your blog, I hope you are having a fun time with your family and friends. I am also spending a lot of time with my family and also blogging! I hope to read more of your activity blogs. Remember that you can choose any activities to do in any order! :)
All the best,
Jade C.
Morena Sandra.
ReplyDeleteClare here from the Summer Learning Journey, I am visiting the Uru Manuka cluster today. I work in Auckland in a cluster called Ako Hiko. Have you heard of it?
Its awesome to see the students of South Hornby school and the great work you guys are doing.
I like how you have left a clear outline by your comments section of your blog stating what you would like to see in your comments like positive feedback, thoughtful and helpful. Great idea. I might use that idea with my class for this year 2018.
You have completed 3 tasks here and have some very positive and helpful feedback. Remember you can gain more points by commenting on your comments you get and also giving a quality blog comment to other students. Maybe you could give that a go?
Keep up the hard work and you also have this week and next week left to work through the tasks on the Summer Learning Journey.
Clare

ReplyDeleteKia Ora Sandra,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Georgia and I am the cluster manager for the Kaikohekohe (Northland) cluster. For the next few days, I'll be commenting on students blogs from Uru Manuka and I am very excited to see the work you all have been doing this summer.
You've shared some great facts about Maui in your first activity. We can learn a lot from Maui, like not being selfish, and that it's important to keep going, even if someone says you can't do something. As Ruby mentioned, Maui has great perseverance, and this is a very good skill to have. You also mentioned that Maui was the only one of his brothers that could say the Karakia. That's a great observation!
Great work on your second activity, I like that you were honest to your friend in the letter, telling them that you were nervous. That's great that you mentioned the wildlife and nature too. This would have been great to expand on, and tell your friend more about. I'm sure they would have loved to hear about the weird animals you mentioned.
It would be very fun to try out Waka Ama. The only thing that I've done that is a little similar is kayaking. I think Waka Ama would be a bit different though, since it's a race. Have you tried anything similar to this activity before?
It's great to see that you've joined the summer program and we hope to see more blog posts from you soon. The program ends on the 26th of January (next friday).
