Summer Learning Journey

Activity One

We have to blog about the top 3 fun and cool facts about New Zealand.

1. The Biggest City In New Zealand is Auckland  but the Capital City is Wellington.

I think the Capital should be Auckland. I also wonder why Wellington?

2.  In New Zealand there are no Snakes.

I am happy the there are no snakes in New Zealand because that would be more danger to our native bird the Kiwi.

3. The farmers in New Zealand make 100 kg of butter and 65 kg of cheese every year for every person in New Zealand.

I think that this is something amazing for New Zealand because we are a small country. Even Egyptians know this.

Pyramids Of Giza

For literacy our focus is working on different styles of writing. For our
information report we had a choice between the pyramids of Egypt or
the extreme weather. The most challenging thing for me was finding the facts.
The easiest thing was writing it down .

Pyramids of Giza
Have you wondered how Pyramids were made? So have I. The Pyramids of Giza
were the tallest manmade structure in the world.

The Pyramids of Giza were made by the pharaoh's slaves.
They Used two main stones from beside the river Nile to build the Pyramids.
The river Nile was close because so they can save time from where they are
making the pyramids.

To pull the big stone across the desert they wet the sand in front of
them and then pulled it across the sand . The pharaoh Khufu was the
one who wanted to build the pyramids of giza. He made them because
when he dies they bury him in the center of the Pyramid.

The Pyramids were covered with limestone and it made it made smooth.
It used shine like a bight star but the that layer has fallen down because of a earthquake.
The Pyramids are older than 3,800 years. The weight of the the great pyramid 2.5 tons.

The Pyramids of Giza are fascinating things. Do you think we will ever find the
real story behind them? If we did it would move the world with excitement.

How To Brush Your Teeth

For Health we have been learning about keeping yourself clean. The first thing we did was we watched a video about the importance of brushing your teeth. We had to create a slide of how to teach 5 year olds to brush their teeth. We had to have how long you had to brush it for and when to brush your teeth. The hardest thing I found was to make the brush move and make the bubbles. My next step is to make my slideshow easier to understand. One of my question that I have how can I improve my slideshow and how to create more advanced movement? Maybe next time I could get the brush to talk instead of the people.

Life Education Boss or Leader

                               Life Education Boss or Leader

In life Education we are learning about relationships and being with other people.  We have done activities in the life education bus. We played sentence ping pong. We also watched what happens if we were all the same and that it is good to be different becauses it won't be boring and we have a our own opinions. We did a personality test and I was a lion the lion is a leader. We learnt the difference between a leader and a boss. We had to match up the sentence of a leader to the opposite of a boss.

Inquiry-Change

For Inquiry we have been learning about change. Our experiment was putting vinegar and baking soda together. It was very cool because when the cork fell it touched the roof and left foam. I knew the cork was going to fly off but I did not think it would touch the roof.

Your teacher will show you a range of ingredients/  equipment that will be used…

Make a hypothesis (guess) about the following

What do you think will happen?

I think that when you put the vinegar and the baking soda together will explode and the cork will fly
off because when you mix vinegar and baking soda causes carbon dioxide and that is what makes
the cork fly off the bottle.

What do you think these will be?
Reactants
Baking Soda and Vinegar and a bottle
Product
Foam
Chemical Reaction
The chemical reaction is when it rises and fizzes up.

Was your hypothesis right/ wrong? Why?
Yes it was correct because I have done it it before.

My Best Poem

For literacy we have been writing and reading loads of poems. We have made limericks, acrostics, triplets and cinquains.  We decided to choose our best poems to share on our blogs. I chose the one that I most liked because it is my best one because of the rhyming pattern that I have made and the way the story unfolds.

Phonics

For phonics the off phonics group do word searches. They are different than the real ones you would do for fun. You get given 4 prefixes and you have to find words that start with those prefixes the 4 prefixes were sub, com, pro and en. There are 24 words to find each time. This is not the only thing we do sometimes we need to make something to teach somebody else about prefixes.

Graph Maths

For maths we have been making graphs. We got put into groups and chose something to work with. We chose the question about favorite colour balloons. The colour that was chosen the most was the black. We worked amazing together.

Celebration of learning

Last Friday we had a day called Celebration of learning. The whole school started normally until morning tea. Then the story tellers (Choir) got called to wear their uniform. Not long after that parents started to come in one by one. When all of the parents came and the rest of the school the hall was filled. When I looked for my mum I could not find her but she was there from the start. We performed amazingly! Sure we had some mistakes but we were so marvelous and positive nobody noticed them.

Prediction

For Reading we have been learning how to predict what is going to happen. Mr Breach gave us a rubric to help us predict what is going to happen in the story.
The rubric had levels the first one said "One Idea" the second one was "Many Ideas" and "linked ideas" and so on. My group (Boy in the Dress) are working on linked ideas. I loved the rubric because it helped me predict what was going to happen.
The story that we used was the Water Cycle. My first prediction was that the children were going to get taught how much water they use  by reading the title and looking at the pictures but when I read a little I predicted that someone is going to create a play pump for kids to have fun pumping water.

Have you done anything on predicting for reading in your learning? Can you tell me any more ideas you might have?

Measurement

In maths we are learning about measurement. Today we learnt about meter's. First we wrote items in the class room that we thought was a meter. Next we had to measure it with a meter ruler and we had to write the actual measurement. After that we had to work out the difference between the estimation and that the actual measurement.

Paper Aeroplanes- Measurement

In maths we have been learning about measurement. We have been learning how to estimate and measure. I made a paper plane marked out a runway with measurement tape. First we had to estimate how far my plane will go I estimated 1.5m but it actually went 1.6m it went further than I thought then we were allowed to make another plane for our second throw my second plane was a lot better than my first one I estimated that it would go 2m and it did go 2m I wasn't happy about because when I threw it for a practice it went 4 meters and when I threw it for real it failed.

Robotic's

For the last 10 weeks we have learning how to program a EV3.
First I learnt to make it go forward and then stop then it go forward again. Then I learnt how to make it go right and left. I found really hard to program because my group kept getting confused. The thing that I loved was when we finally got it to move.
